Girls Play
Girls Play is an installation of cutouts of dolls clothes presented in a variety of forms. The work consists of pieces of
cut and painted board and a series of mono prints which provide a textural contrast. The MDF board is carefully cut into
the shapes of dolls and dolls clothes. Some of these are not much bigger than a matchbox, others stand over a metre. They
are painted in oil with a graphic linear character to bring back vivid memories of childhood play and life in the fifties.
These pieces tend to trigger memory and summon the absent child. The work flirts with sculpture, explores notions of high
art, low art, and speaks of the role of fashion and the female artist.
